Cammy Torgenrud

humanities, coordinator of academic technology
B.A., Stanford University, M.A. Stanford University

Surrounded by a family of educators, Cammy Torgenrud finally acknowledged the wisdom of following in their collective footsteps the summer after her junior year at Stanford. Upon recognizing that teaching secondary students would satisfy her interests in both English and Psychology, as well as grant her the elixir of the fountain of youth, she immediately embarked on a journey back into the halls of high school.

Equipped with a master’s degree in education, a love of literature, and a natural curiosity about the adolescent mind, Cammy dedicated herself to teaching 9th grade English, as well as a smattering of advanced English classes and, eventually, Psychology. After 17 seasons and somewhat weary of teaching freshmen Homer’s epic, Cammy determined to reevaluate her professional role before Odysseus returned home to Penelope. As a result, she took a leave of absence during year 18 of her career to learn more effective ways of integrating technology in the curriculum.

Returning to York as the Coordinator of Academic Technology, Cammy currently assists both students and faculty in effectively using technology to improve learning and communication in an information age. She maintains York's moodle, an online course management system, and encourages students to delve into the mysteries of literature in English III and the human brain in Psychology, a senior elective.
