Carol White, head librarian
B.A., University of California, Davis, Master of Library and Information Science, San Jose State University
While enjoying side trips as a medical researcher, human resources manager, crafts teacher and especially stay-at-home mom, Carol has finally found what she wants to do when she “grows up” – be a librarian. A lifelong lover of books and with omnivorous tastes, she’ll read anything; from comic books to classics.
Carol’s York experience started as a parent when her two children attended and later graduated from the school. She feels this gives her a broader perspective and helps her to understand the needs of the whole school community.
After receiving her Masters in Library and Information Science at California State University at San Jose in 2000, she spent 4 years as a reference librarian at the Harrison Memorial Library in Carmel. While there, she realized that many people, both young and old, were lacking in the skills required to navigate the new electronic world. When the opportunity at York arose, she jumped at the chance to not only strengthen the library program, but to lend her expertise to the development of an information literacy program.
Having grown up in a large and extended family, Carol feels at home in the middle of an active library while still coveting quiet time. She gets the best of both worlds in the York library.
