Spanish teacher
York School, a small independent college preparatory high school in Monterey, California, with a student body of approximately 220 students that range from the Eighth to the Twelfth grades, is seeking a Spanish teacher for the coming school year, 2010-2011. He or she would be part of a two person team in Spanish and a member of a Language Department that includes Chinese, French, and Latin (as well as Italian, occasionally).
York is interested in candidates with a minimum of a B.A. in Spanish and native or near native fluency insofar as teaching is in the target language and emphasis is placed on oral communication. Besides being able to teach all levels of the language, the candidates should also have enthusiasm for teaching, experience with high school age students, and a willingness to explore new methodologies and technologies for the delivery of the language.
Descubre / Avancemos makes up the core three year required program, followed by Spanish IV or IV AP (using Una vez mas along with readings and a variety of other materials) and Spanish V. The usual teaching load is four or sometimes five classes; besides monthly faculty and departmental meetings, there are also ancillary duties such as the library, dance, and activities supervision.

Part-time Technologist
York School seeks candidates to serve as a part-time technologist, beginning June of 2010.
First, the person filling this position will provide technological support for administrators, faculty and students. This would include troubleshooting software and hardware issues, as well as facilitating any administrative or curricular needs that are of a technological nature. Furthermore, this person would be primarily responsible for any technological preparation needed for meetings and presentations.
Second, playing a role in the development and maintenance of the school's network will be an integral part of this position. Maintaining and monitoring server backups, the general condition of the network and all hardware will be a basic duty. This person also needs to be familiar with, and have the ability to execute, network cabling.
Third, this person will collaborate with the Coordinator of Academic Technology, playing a role in the development and evolution of the technology curriculum. On occasion, this technologist may be asked to substitute teach.
Lastly, candidates should be able to thrive in a project-based technological environment with the ability to respect deadlines and work autonomously. He or she should also possess good organizational skills, as well as a general attention to detail.
The individual filling this position will report administratively and functionally to the Director of Technology. Compensation will be based on experience.
