Some schools try to prepare the path for a student as he or she progresses through the educational system. Our goal is a little different. We prepare the student for the path. That means that our focus on teaching students how to use critical thinking, reading, and analysis skills helps them negotiate a whole variety of paths they might encounter, not just one. We want our students to be prepared for life. That doesn’t mean we teach them how to do their laundry or how to get along with three roommates in their freshman dorm—we leave that up to their parents. But they will leave York being accustomed to the pleasure of intellectual challenge, community connections, and individual expression.
