And we're off! The 2017-18 school year is officially underway and full of energy. In addition to the new students and parents who've joined us, we also welcome five new members to our outstanding faculty and staff.
Tricia Gail Boyer joins York's Business Office as the Accounts Payable and Facilities Coordinator. She has an extensive background in accounting and financial functions, and specific experience working in nonprofits. In addition to accounting knowledge, Tricia Gail can answer any of your questions about roller derby—she's officiated matches all over and even taught classes on being a roller derby official at RollerCon, a national roller derby convention. Be sure to stop by and meet Ms. Boyer in the Business Office (Room 7).
Christian Brady is excited and grateful for the opportunity to join the York community and the Classical Languages Department as a Latin I, II, III and YAS Latin IV Honors teacher. His passion for Latin, which he started learning as a middle schooler living on Oahu, HI, took him through a B.A. at Middlebury College and an M.A. at the University of British Columbia. He previously taught at Basis Independent School in San Jose, and in his free time, enjoys League of Legends and spelling bees—he recently lost a competition in double sudden death to a woman named Marlowe because of the word Nietzschean, which he still thinks is impossible to spell :)
Elijah Colby joins the English Department as an English II and English V teacher. He brings a depth of experience and understanding of independent schools having worked at Phillips Exeter, Cheshire Academy, and most recently, Drew School in San Francisco. Before starting his career he earned his A.B. at Dartmouth. Mr. Colby is an incorrigible adventurer who loves long runs with his dog, Trout, and long drives with his wife, Ilse.
Rebecca Durrer lives by the truth of Heraclitus—the only thing that is constant is change—and she was drawn to York by the independent nature and critical thinking of our students. She joins the History Department as an Ancient History and World History II teacher, bringing new and exciting ways to imagine and learn from history. Rebecca earned her B.A. from Rice University and her Ph.D. from the University of Houston, and brings middle and high school teaching experience to her classes.
Martin Mendieta joins our team as Facilities Associate. Working closely with Mr. Riso, he will be on campus in the afternoons (3-7:00 p.m.) to support our grounds and maintenance needs. He's a bit shy, but welcomes the opportunity to join our community.
