Matthew Baughman

PLANT SERVICES SUPERVISOR  |  MBAUGHMAN@YORK.ORG

At our “morning” check in, I say “good morning Matt! How are you this morning?” His answer without fail is “wonderful, wonderful, it is a wonderful day on campus.” This positive attitude inspires me every day.
Fana Oldfield, Director of Finance and Operations

Matt refers to himself as a country boy, who loves animals and seeks creative ways to fix things and solve problems. He loves his family and spends as much time with them as he is able. He enjoys playing with and supporting his 12 nieces and nephews in their activities.

Matt is a “local.” He was born in Salinas and was raised in Prunedale. He also spent some time in a small town in  Pennsylvania. He attended and graduated from North Monterey High School. Matt is multi-faceted with experience ranging from a diesel and gas engine mechanic to a painter, landscaper and carpenter.

Right after high school, Matt was approached by a US military recruiter to join the Navy. He joined, and between 2006 and 2010, Matt was assigned to shore duty in beautiful Lemoore, California for two and a half years. He then served on an amphibious assault ship in the Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean Sea and the Persian Gulf regions for the rest of his Naval career. While in the Navy, he  specialized in maintenance and repair of hydraulic generators and the other aviation support equipment on the ship.

After serving in the Navy, Matt studied business management and was on his way to getting his BA. He quickly realized his passion was working with his hands and fixing things. He was very happy with the decision he made to pursue his personal passion. Later, he worked for his neighbor, Dave Clarke, who maintained York’s athletic fields. That initial exposure to York School led Matt to apply for the Plant Services Supervisor’s position at York School. He joined the Business and Operations team in August of 2018.

While prioritizing his role at York first, Matt also breeds exotic snakes and restores cars, trucks and motorcycles.

Matt has a great work ethic and he is a great asset for York based up on his personality and wide-ranging skills.
