Sean Raymond, Academic Dean, English

B.A., S.S English, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo; M.A. Nova Southeastern University

At Cal Poly’s University Center for Teacher Education, Sean was schooled in learning by doing, and for two decades, he has explored and pursued active, social learning in a variety of schools (public, charter, and independent) across America, from the west coast to the southeast and the northeast. While wishing to carry forward elements of a classical liberal arts education, Sean also seeks to design and provide 21st century pedagogy and curricula by offering students opportunities for cross-curricular learning, collaboration, cosmopolitansim, communication, creativity, critical thinking, and character.

Sean joined the faculty at York with one aim in mind: to provide an engaging, rigorous program at one of the most compelling schools in California. His second year, Sean accepted the position of Academic Dean, and has since stewarded York’s academic program with an eye on advancing York's mission, thinking forward, facilitating professional growth, and aiding student academic success.

Sean enjoys being part of a well-rounded education. He sponsors York’s Literary Magazine, Surf Club, and Junior State of America. Born in New Zealnd and having lived in England, Australia, and Fiji before immigrating to California, Sean loves to travel, and he has led York students to the United Kingdom, Big Sur, Yosemite, Japan, and Washington, DC.
