YORK SCHOOL 2019 NATIONAL SPANISH & PORTUGUESE EXAM RESULTS:The Department of Classical & Modern Languages is proud to announce the results from the 2019 National Spanish and Portuguese Examinations. Conducted by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish & Portuguese, the 90 minute exams are carried out over two class periods, with students competing at 6 different levels, 1-6, in three different categories: Bilingual Students, Students with Outside Experience, and Students with Classroom Experience. Over 146,000 students from across the country competed in this year’s National Spanish Exam, and 63 York Spanish students earned recognition for their performance, earning Gold Medal awards at 4 different levels of the exam in levels 2 through 5. They earned 18 Gold, 16 Silver, and 11 Bronze medals along with 18 Honorable Mention awards. 27 York students placed in the top 10% nationally in their respective levels and 7 York students placed in the top 1% of students in the country in their respective levels: Jordan Chiantelli-Mosebach, Leonardo del Toro, Yuqi “Francis” Geng, Jordan Goodwin, Christopher Hein, Jiacheng, “Tom” Liu, and Sophie Rasmussen. Yuqi, “Francis”, Geng earned a perfect score on the second-year level of the exam, 1 of only 12 students to earn a perfect, 400 out of 400, point score amongst the over 39,000 students who took the second year level of the exam. In addition to earning a Gold Medal award and placing in the top one percent of students on the National Spanish Exam, Tom Liu earned a Silver Medal on the 4thyear level of the National Portuguese Exam, the first York student to participate in the Portuguese Exam.
