Calling all parents
Whether your student is new or returning to York, the start of school provides opportunity for self-reflection and refinement of one’s approach to learning. Many students are currently asking themselves how do I want to go about achieving success, academic confidence, and happiness? And parents are asking themselves how can I best support my student's success, confidence, and well-being? Recent findings from cognitive psychology and neuroscience are both dispelling misperceptions of how we best learn and reinforcing decades of good, well-intentioned practices.
Join us Wednesday, September 20 for a presentation on Successful Habits of Mind. Sean Raymond, Assistant Head of School and Academic Dean, and Joyce Sherry, Dean of Students, will provide an overview of best-practices and recent findings from cognitive psychology and neuroscience. Key recommendations from texts such as Mindset, The Talent Code, Focus, Grit, and How We Learn will be discussed as well as essential learning techniques, such as mindfulness, retrieval practice, and interleaving. This presentation will be held from 6-7:00 p.m. in York's Gatanaga Theater and will precede that evening's York Parents Meeting.
