Falcons start soccer season with a solid win!
The Falcon Boys Soccer Team kicked off the new Arroyo Division 2020 season with a 4-2 victory over the Trinity Christian Warriors Tuesday afternoon on York’s beautiful upper field. Justin Vu '20 scored 3 goals from the run of play and 1 from the penalty spot. Combining to assist in the goals were Jason Khan ’22, Kaeden Ellawendy ’20, and Vincent Camacho ’23.
The Falcons were challenged by the Warriors as they debuted their the new style of play that involves more patience and building through possession and combining with each other rather than the direct, kick it over the top, style that had been favored by previous teams at York. The midfield trio of Kaeden, Jason, and Fletcher Gaucher ’20 controlled the midfield with skill and tenacity and kept frustrating Trinity from establishing much of an attack.
The defensive play at the back anchored by Jason Mao ’21 and Freshmen Tristan Pfleger ’23 was strong for all 80 minutes and the two goals by Trinity came from a corner kick and a free kick that involved two well placed headers by the skilled aerial play of the Trinity center-back number 16.
The Falcons have a deep bench this year with 25 players on the squad and had eighteen players get good playing time on Tuesday including first ever starting assignments for Sophomore Ryan Kragelund '22. The Falcon boys next game is this Friday, away at Anzar.
Come out and watch them play!
