Sensei Danielle Smith of Aikido Monterey will conduct a 4-hour self-defense class on Saturday, May 16 from 1 - 5 p.m at her dojo, 1251 Tenth Street, Monterey. The class is open to any York female student, with priority given to seniors. There is a maximum enrollment of 10 students. The course will cover:
  • The concept of self-defense
  • Physical techniques, including defending against attacks from the front or the back, and ground techniques
  • The verbal components of a physical attack
  • Awareness and maintenance of personal safe space
  • Role playing and practice of an actual physical attack
With so many stories in the news regarding sexual assaults on college campuses, this is an essential introduction to self-defense for college bound girls. To register for the class, please email Dean of Students Joyce Sherry at jsherry@york.org, and have your student bring in a $50 check made out to York School with "Self Defense" in the memo line. To hold your student's spot in the class, please submit your check no later than Thursday, April 16.
