From Chuck Harmon, Head of School
From the initial orientation most of you attended to each and every time I have the opportunity to say so, I point out that good communication is essential to the extraordinary partnership we have with our parents, so we are always looking to improve our communication with you.
Several results from the survey stand out. One is that responses to the survey itself were down (9%) from previous years to just under 50% of all parents. Similarly, there has been a slight decline in the number of those who click on links in “The Falcon,” and as reflected in the infographic, about two thirds of you visit the website four or fewer times a month. In contrast, 94% of the respondents indicated a preference to receive school announcements via email, but of course, we know you may not want all the information we provide in your inboxes!
Our plan: Of particular concern to us was that among the comments we received in the survey, a great many reflected a lack of information that we do try to provide in “The Falcon” or on the website. It is now clear “The Falcon” is the preferred source for information, and the information we thought parents were getting by “clicking for more,” is not getting to you. Our plan is to tighten up the content so we can include as much detail as possible without increasing the length. For those families who want even more specifics, we will continue to include links to blog posts on york.org; if you haven’t been accessing the links, we encourage you to click. For those items that warrant special attention, expect more communication from us separate from “The Falcon.” In addition, we plan to introduce a new email resource highlighting exciting things happening on campus—look for it in the start of the new year. And be assured, we’ll be mindful not to flood your inboxes :)
I welcome your additional comments and suggestions as to how we can better utilize the various methods of communicating, from email to social media. Please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 831-372-7338 x127.
