Classrooms of the Future
We want our classrooms to be active learning spaces. Our goal is to help students develop the skills necessary to handle 21st century problems and jobs that haven’t yet been created. We do this in classrooms that foster creativity, collaboration, and effective communication. Classrooms have modular structures to support differentiated instruction and teamwork, and student movement, which is good for the brain and for learning.
Built in 2003 with environmentally sustainable technology, the science building is the centerpiece of our commitment to teaching and living green. Constructed using recycled materials, energy saving systems, and conservation of resources, this space is home to four classrooms and three laboratories for Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
With an extensive instrumental music program, our students use this space to expand their repertoire and prepare for upcoming concerts and performances. You can also find the office of our Arts Department Chair here.
Gawain Family Theater
Our brand new outdoor theater is the perfect setting for student presentations, debates and panel discussions, guest speakers and performances – every conceivable activity happening in an outdoor facility built in the Classical Greek tradition. This venue provides students with a collaborative, creative arena to discuss, explore, and even act out the challenges of a contemporary world.
Fenton Student Center
This hangout is the students’ space. They have access to couches, tables, and microwaves, and can eat, study, or just relax. With no official cafeteria, the Student Center provides students with a place to heat up their lunches, and on cold days, pile in for warmth.
Dean of Students' Office
Located in the Library, the Dean of Students – and her trusted assistant, Cleo the therapy dog – is there to listen. Having a bad day? Stop by for a pep talk. Worried about a test? Learn a simple stress-relief technique. Want to share exciting news? Stop by to celebrate. No matter the reason, she is there to support students and their well being.
Community is an important piece of the York culture. Part of how we build our strong and welcoming community is by gathering together. The chapel is our communal space for our student assembly, “Break,” convocations, and forums. In the back corner, you can also find the office of our Academic Dean.
Our theater sets the stage for many theatrical productions, concerts, and dance classes. With retractable seats, the space can easily be transformed into a dance floor for a Masquerade Ball or other spirit activities.
Academic Dean's Office
Our Academic Dean helps students craft the perfect schedule, support their academic pursuits, and plan out how they want to spend their time at York. His office is situated in the back of the Chapel, and he is available to meet with students and parents to create the best possible academic experience.
Home of the Falcons, our gym is used by the volleyball and basketball teams, in addition to Health & Fitness options like badminton. With rich, hardwood floors and Division pennants adorning the walls, you can’t help but get pumped up.
College Counseling Office
Our Director of College Counseling works with students to explore their collegiate options and supports them through the application process. The office is often full of seniors in the fall! Starting junior year, students take Pathways, a course designed to help them work through the process of narrowing their college selections and preparing for the application process.
The Main Office is the communication hub at York. Students get to know our School Secretary who is there to help or guide them, and there are various resources available here, including forms, first aid assistance, student phone, and more. Students can stop in any time with questions or just for a chat.
Looking for a high school with exceptional academics and a welcoming community? Think YORK. Schedule a visit day or make an appointment with the Director of Admission to tour campus. The Admission Office is located down the main campus staircase and to the right.
Head of School's Office
The Head of School keeps an open door policy - though making an appointment ensures he will be available when you come to campus. Located down the hall from the Main Office, he is interested to hear what parents and students have to say, and to answer any questions current or prospective families have about the School.
At York, everyone is on the Advancement Team! Located across from the Head of School’s Office, team members work in partnership with donors, alumni, and friends to enhance the academic program, athletics, the arts, facilities, faculty development, and financial aid at York.
The Business Office handles student billing, facilities, and all of the financial aspects of the School. Questions about payment plans or financial aid, stop by the Business Office in room 7.
Athletic Fields & Courses
Our three athletics fields, cross country course, track, and softball field give our students many opportunities for physical activity. Whether participating on one of our 19 athletic teams or being active in Health & Fitness, our students can play hard - and have a great view of the Peninsula as well!
