Accepting Applications for the 2020-2021 School Year
We're happy that you're interested in York School and invite you to explore our website, visit campus, and begin your application to York. The Admission Office is here to assist you every step of the way. Call, email, or meet with us in person. We look forward to getting to know you and to sharing what makes York a great place to go to school.
October - November, January - February
Tuesday - Thursday
Visiting campus is the best way to see yourself be at York. You'll spend the day with a student host, experiencing a typical day on campus. For more info check out Visit York.
PARENTS: Once your student is off to class, you'll meet briefly with York's Head of School and Admission Director.
Submission Deadline February 1
York School uses a common application for independent schools called the Standard Application Online (SAO).
How to start your application:
- Create an account at ssat.org
- Complete all biographical questions, including interests and activities
- Choose “Apply to Schools” and select York School to start your application-York's school code is 8412
- Next, choose to share your information with York—without this, we won't know about your application
Complete and submit the following:
- Student Essay
- Parent Statement
Note: Applicants interested in using the Application for Bay Area Independent High Schools should contact our Admission Office for more information.

Request from Teachers before February 1
Request teacher recommendations and transcripts through your SAO account (see APPLICATION information above):
- English Recommendation (current-year teacher)
- Math Recommendation (current-year teacher)
- Principal Recommendation (current Head of School or counselor)
- Official Transcript (we require transcripts from the current year and the previous academic year)
January 14-February 28
When your file is complete (application, all recommendations, transcript, visit day, and SSAT results), the Admission Office will contact you to set up an interview. This 15-minute conversation on campus is for the applicant with two members of the Faculty Admission Committee. We want to get to know you and give you the opportunity to ask questions about York’s programs and community.
