As I walk from class to class, students and teachers ask me “How’s the musical coming along?” I want everyone to know that it is going wonderfully! This year we’re putting on “The Boyfriend” which is a pastiche (spoof) of British musicals of the 1920’s. You know—girl meets boy, they fall in love, there’s confusion and they split up, then just as it looks like our star crossed lovers can’t overcome their differences, they figure out a way. Your typical sweet love story, “The Boyfriend” is all that and more, exaggerated and dramatic on a sleek, art deco set. In great contrast to the poignant “Godspell” and thrilling “Pippin”, “The Boyfriend” is a feel-good musical that everyone can enjoy.
This year we have a record number of underclassmen participating! It’s reassuring to know that we seniors are leaving the York theatre program just as strong as when we entered—scared, shy freshmen and eighth graders. It’s always exciting to watch the show come together and see what we, as an ensemble, have created. I look forward to seeing everyone in the audience November 5-8. Keep your eye on the school website to reserve your seat!
