Name: Lauren Sugar
Grade: 10 - Class of 2018
Previous School: San Benancio Middle School

I am currently a sophomore and I have been attending York for three years now. I started at York when I was in eighth grade and that was one of the smartest decisions I have ever made. Eighth grade at York really prepared me for the transition from middle school to high school!

One of my favorite qualities about York is the sense of community we have. Three days a cycle the whole school comes together for about fifteen minutes at our all school assembly, "Break”. At Break, anyone can make announcements about clubs, sports teams, or upcoming dances. But another important happening at Break is the sophomore speech. The sophomore speech is a memorized speech about an event that happened in your life that taught you a lesson. Since this is a speech is in front of the whole school it can be nervewracking, but once you get up there and deliver your speech, you feel such a personal accomplishment. When I gave my speech back in November, I was very intimidated at the start, but there was something about having the spotlight that was also thrilling. After I finished my speech, the whole student body, along with the faculty and staff applauded and I felt pride and a sense of accomplishment. I am so glad that I had the opportunity to give this speech!
