One of my most anticipated spring activities for all four years at York has been the lacrosse season. We have only been an official team since my freshman year, but our progress has been outstanding. Although as of writing this we still have one game to play, our team has had an excellent season so far. It is really exciting to watch new players grow in confidence and skills on the field.
Probably the most interesting thing about playing on a sports team for my entire high school career is watching how different players affect the team in different ways. Beyond just stick skills, every new player that has joined the team has added their unique personality to the team dynamic. It has been so fun to be a part of a team, and I think that lacrosse has consistently been my favorite sport because of how close every player manages to end up at the end of the season.
This week we have our last game of the season, against our long time rivals Stevenson, and while it sounds cliche, I don’t care really what the score will be. As a captain, I am so proud of the progress the team has made this year. No matter the result of the game, we will end with a winning season(either 8-4 or 7-5)! I have somewhat bittersweet feelings about the end of the season, but I have faith in the team that we will play to the best of our abilities and finish the season in a way that will make us all proud.
