Girls Lacrosse - Great 2016 Season
Posted 04/28/2016 02:36PM

The 2016 York Girls Lacrosse Team won their last 6 games to finish the season 8-4, giving them back-to-back winning seasons having finished 2015 at 8-4-1.

Captains Geri Pirkle ’16, Eloise Coly ’16, and Emma Cushing ’17 continue to inspire and lead their teammates with their relentless and tireless play. The season started strong with a first ever 11-9 overtime victory against Harker School in San Jose. Katie Newman ’18 owned the draw that day and along with Claire Galloway ’17, used their quick stick skills to continually gain/keep possession and secure a win. Emma Cushing ’17 (junior captain) picked up where she left off after her first year of being a goalie and improves each game, helped by a defensive "wall" comprised of both seasoned (Teagan Mauck ’17, Syd Ragsdale-Cronin ’17) and fast-learning first year players (Katie Whilden ’19 and Isabelle Sharp ’18) that rarely allows a clean shot on their goalie. The sweep of Catalina and a victory over Stevenson (12-10) were made possible in part by new standouts Lauren Marshall ’18 and Audrey Bailey ’19 along with strong performances from first year players Katie Calciano ’19 and Madeleine Sharp ’18. While fourth year player Camilla Diamond ’16 shows her love for the sport by playing through injuries, first year players Jona Cruz ’19 and Sammy Smock ’19 are looking more relaxed with the speed of this “fastest game on two feet” and gaining more confidence, evidenced by their lengthy field time during the team's 12-5 victory over Monterey on April 21. It’s been an exciting and fun ride - GO FALCONS!
