Diane joined the York Community in 2013 when her son Alex '17 enrolled as a freshman; her daughter Sophia '19 entered the freshman class this semester.
Born in Hollywood, Diane and her husband Bob moved to the Monterey Peninsula in 1995.
Sophia and Alex graduated from All Saints' Day School in Carmel where Diane chaired Angels in the Attic, the Latin Feast, the Book Fair, and served as room parent many times.
"I'm so delighted to work with Debra Schadeck on the Gala this year. We have such a dedicated and talented group here at York; it's a pleasure to join the team. I hope we'll have a lot of parent and community support for our event this year. York is an incredible school and we have an opportunity to make it even better."
Diane has her B.A. in Art from Immaculate Heart College and a secondary teaching credential in English and art from CSULA. She also studied at the Art Center College of Design.
She taught English and art in the Los Angeles Unified School District for fifteen years and also had an earlier career in advertising working with clients such as Toyota and Suzuki motorcycles, where she organized many crack-of-daylight commercial shoots in the California deserts.
Debra, parent of junior Evan Hamilton '17, has joined with Diane Davies to serve as co-chair of the INSPIRE! 2016 York Auction Gala.
Monterey County native, Debra and her family—husband Rich Hamilton, son Evan, and golden retriever Quinta—relocated back to Carmel Valley a little over two years ago after a nine-year stint at the North Shore of Lake Tahoe. She enjoys skiing, hiking, wild mushroom foraging, cooking and consuming fine foods, and is an avid gardener.
Debra has a long and varied volunteer career locally on the Peninsula and in Tahoe. She has worked in a broad spectrum of volunteer capacities over the past several decades, including serving as president of several volunteer organizations and chairing many successful auctions.
“This will be my third year co-chairing the York Auction Gala and I love this annual fundraising event! I thoroughly enjoy working with other dedicated York parents and the entire York community to achieve a successful and fun-filled evening. I feel privileged to be co-chairing this year with Diane Davies and the very talented members of the Auction Gala committee. Once again, I hope to inspire all York parents to become involved at some level with the Gala, be it soliciting an auction item, helping out on the committee or at the event, and/or attending the Gala. Let’s all work together to support our own students and York School to ensure the very best educational experience possible for our children and those who follow.”
Debra has a B.A. in Geography from U.C. Davis and a professional background in land use planning and entitlement and regulatory processes associated with real estate development.
