Study Abroad with CIEE
Top Reasons to Study Abroad
By immersing themselves in the customs and culture of other countries, students become better equipped to identify and interact with people from different backgrounds—whether it be in school, on the job, or in their personal lives. In today's interconnected global economy, intercultural skills have never been more important.
INDEPENDENCE & RESILIENCE
Students who study abroad are better prepared to make transitions, take control of new situations, and appreciate challenging situations for what they are: opportunities to learn and grow. Our goal is to nurture flexible, independent thinkers, who are able to meet challenges and solve problems in a variety of settings.
There's a reason admissions officers like seeing international study experience on a résumé—it's one of the greatest ways for students to acquire the types of life skills that can't be learned in a classroom. Studying abroad shows initiative, maturity, and independence.
DISTINGUISHED GLOBAL SCHOLAR RECOGNITION
Starting with the Class of 2017, York students who have achieved excellence in developing the knowledge, skills, empathy, and leadership required to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world through various accomplishments, including an approved study abroad experience, will be recognized as York Distinguished Global Scholars.
IMPROVED LANGUAGE SKILLS
Lost? Need to find a bathroom? Want a coffee? Being surrounded by those who speak another language forces students to use their world language skills. And what better way to practice speaking and listening then when immersed in the language and culture.
ADVENTURE. FUN. NEW FRIENDS.
Up for an adventure like no other? CIEE's Global Navigator summer abroad programs expand students' comfort zones. Each day will have new cultural activities, exciting excursion opportunities with your CIEE friends to must-see landmarks or exotic locales, and authentic interactions with the local communities.
PASSION & DIRECTION
Studying abroad gets students more in tune with their personal and professional interests and helps them gain perspective for their next big step. By allowing them to explore their interests and develop new ones, studying abroad can provide meaningful exposure to global topics students may want to address in future study and work.
