With Interim Head of School Matt Micciche’s announcement that he will be leaving at the end of June 2027, the Board of Trustees has launched a national search for the next Head of School to begin on July 1, 2027. The Board has appointed a Head of School Search Committee that will shepherd the process with the assistance of our search consultants, Highley Thompson and Shoshanna Lurie of Educational Directions. We will keep this page updated as the search progresses, and we invite you to contact Highley or Shoshanna with suggestions of outstanding educators who might be interested in becoming our next Head of School and/or questions about the process.

Dear Members of the York School Community:
I’m writing to give you an update on the Board of Trustees’ search for our next Head of School. I am pleased to report that the process of finding our new Head has already begun.
The Board has identified a firm to help guide the search - Educational Directions - a national firm that works with all types of independent schools and that has had over 600 clients in its 40-year history. We invite you to visit their website, www.edudx.com, to learn more. Most importantly, the Educational Directions consultants Highley Thompson and Shoshanna Lurie have already begun to develop an understanding of York’s mission and a deep appreciation for our community of students, parents, alumni, faculty and staff. A Board Steering Committee including alumni, former faculty and a current parent (Danielle McShane ’99; Rob Weil P’28, P'29; Mirco Haag ’05; Cammy Torgenrud; and Mark Kerman ’78) will help facilitate the search.
As part of this process, Highley and Shoshanna invite you to complete an anonymous survey to gather your input and perspectives. Your participation is an important part of the process, and we thank you for the insights you will provide. Please complete the survey by the end of Friday, September 11.

Once Highley and Shoshanna complete the discovery phase of the process, they will create a position profile for our steering and advisory committees to review. This document will be an important recruiting tool that they will use as their primary marketing vehicle when seeking and speaking with prospective candidates.
Given the importance of a smooth transition for our community, we'll be giving strong consideration to candidates who already know York or the local community well. The search remains open to all qualified candidates, including those already part of the York community, each of whom will go through the same thorough evaluation process. Over the next several weeks, Highley and Shoshanna will be identifying and screening top, mission-aligned prospects.
