Biography

Heather Danishanko is from the suburbs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and knew from a young age that she wanted to be a teacher. She earned Bachelor of Arts degrees in Spanish and English education from King’s College in Wilkes-Barre. She furthered her studies at UNC Charlotte, obtaining a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction, where she conducted research on accuracy and equity when assessing high school student abilities.

Experiential learning and engaging with diverse global perspectives have always been priorities for Heather. During her undergraduate studies, she studied abroad twice: first in Peru for language immersion and second in Greece to study Philosophy. In 2022, Heather was honored with the prestigious Fulbright-Hays Seminar Abroad to Hungary, an experience that significantly broadened her global perspective and enriched her teaching practices.

Throughout her career as an educator, Heather has employed comprehension-based communicative language teaching which enables students to achieve higher levels of language proficiency. She serves as a Curriculum Mentor, supporting world language teachers across the country in implementing these research-supported best practices in their classrooms.

Heather is deeply passionate about student life and is committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment. She believes that strong connections between faculty and students are essential for a thriving school community. By working together a community can create a school where students receive a well-rounded education, while also having fun!
