Every student is invited to participate in a personalized course planning session in June with the Director of Teaching & Learning, which can be either virtual or on campus.
Grade 88th grade core classes are predetermined, with math and language based upon choice and/or placement testing. 8th graders also have the option to take a music ensemble. Typical courses for 8th graders:
- Ancient and Classical Civilizations
- Arts 8
- English I
- Math (e.g., Algebra I or Geometry)
- Science 8
- World Language (e.g., Chinese I or Spanish I)
- Study Period/8th Grade Advisory
Grade 99th grade core classes are predetermined, with math and language courses based upon placement determination. Students have elective choices such as Arts courses (visual, vocal, instrumental, performing) and Technology (Code+Design). Typical courses for 9th graders:
- Biology
- English II
- Math (e.g., Algebra I or Geometry)
- Modern World History
- World Language (Chinese or Spanish)
- Elective
Grades 10-11Students transferring into grades 10 or 11 will choose courses based on completed credits and York’s graduation requirements.
