Mark Kerman ’78
Plays an integral role in leading commercial real estate giant, Greystar, in diversifying its global portfolio.
When Mark Kerman ’78 came to York in 1974, there was no 8th grade class so he attended his freshman through senior years on the Sunny Hilltop. While here, he played on the basketball team and participated in student council and yearbook club.
“York has incredible teachers and great students. They are some of the smartest people I’ve ever met. For any student considering York, it’s great preparation, not just for college but for life going forward. It’s a holistic education that extends far beyond the classroom.”
Mark went on to Columbia University for his undergraduate degree in industrial engineering. While there he landed a work study job in the school’s real estate office. Upon graduation, Columbia University offered him a permanent position. He would spend the next three decades working for their residential portfolio doing construction and operations management.
In 2018, Mark was looking for a change when he was scouted by Greystar, a real estate and property management company. Greystar was entering the New York market and looking to grow their foothold in the urban mecca. Mark’s expertise in New York’s residential construction sector and operational experience made him a perfect candidate for the job.
Beyond managing capital planning and construction project management, Mark also helps build his community from the inside out. He is philanthropically involved at York School, Columbia University, his local public school district, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

When we acknowledge the triumphs and successes of alumni, it is usually with the implicit understanding that they have been supported by their community, friends, and perhaps most importantly, their family. We would like to take this opportunity to explicitly acknowledge Deirdre Kerman, Mark's late wife, in all she contributed to the betterment of her community, to her family, and to her beloved husband, Mark.
