Mitchell Green ’75 Publishes Book on Equitable Education Reform

York alum Mitchell Green ’75 has published Education for All: Tales from the Classroom and the Pursuit of Equitable Reform, which examines the seven major influences on learning, where they intersect and, ultimately, how they shape a student’s educational journey.  You can purchase Mitchell's book here, as well as in local Seattle bookstores.

Mitchell joined us earlier this year to speak to the York faculty and staff about cultivating welcoming and equitable classroom culture, teaching diverse learners, and aligning instruction and assessments.

Thank you Mitchell!  Go Falcons!
From Mitchell's website:

Mitchell Green found his calling in teaching after working in construction and sales. For 13 years, he taught all subjects in upper-elementary grades in western Washington State, spent a few years teaching eighth-grade mathematics, and for seven years he coached teachers and provided staff development at public schools around the Puget Sound region. He has a BA in German, M.Ed. in curriculum and instruction, and many teaching and administration credentials.
Green also served on numerous state-level committees tasked with reviewing learning standards, mathematics assessments, and multicultural education. The vast majority of his career was spent working at highly diverse, high-poverty, and low-performing schools, experiences that laid bare the inequities in the American public school system—and the collective ineffectiveness of reform.
Green continues to volunteer in local public schools in Seattle. He is passionate about addressing these inequalities so that all children in the United States, regardless of race or socioeconomic background, have access to high-quality, well-rounded education and can then grow up to be vibrant, active members of their chosen communities.
